Most of
the day at Yunqiu Mountain Scenic Area (like a National Park) with a 2500 year
history. Spectacular mountains as well as a host of cultural traditions and
crafts on display (and to participate).
Along
the walkway to the mountain, the path was decorated with all sorts of things
that were obviously highly valued by the Chinese visitors (we thought they were
clumsy/cheap). Along the way were also many fruit-bearing persimmon trees and
structures built with fruit and vegetables.
One
major attraction is the ‘ice cave’ a set of frozen caves in the mountain –
freezing and spectacular.
We spent
the afternoon in the village (Talpo
Ancient Village) observing cultural rituals and taking part in a series of
craft activities such as painting masks, tie-dying material, making dragons out
of dough (edible after baking!). Two member of the group participated in a
wedding ritual too.
Staying
at the Novotel Yunqiu Mountain Hotel
Pre-dinner drinks here. Marg and I didn’t join post-dinner drinks!
